Welcome to Calcio Square, an email newsletter dedicated to Serie A and Italian football. Every Monday from now on, I'll cover one major talking point from the weekend of action. I'll continue to write about a specific theme, trend, or topic on Thursdays.

Napoli may have made a fatal error in their pursuit of a second Serie A title in three years.

They were minutes away from another 1-0 win when Angelino powered home the equalizer for Roma. Napoli blew their chance to open up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

That's what happens when you backpedal. Napoli tried to absorb pressure but ultimately succumbed to it. Inter, on the other hand, never relented in their pursuit of a comeback, hitting the post three times before finally getting the goal they deserved in the derby against AC Milan.

Now Inter are three points behind Napoli and play their game in hand Thursday at Fiorentina. A win there would put the Nerazzurri level on 54 points with Napoli. Atalanta will have to spectate. They're without Ademola Lookman for awhile and could be as far back as seven points by the start of the weekend.

Napoli did everything they could to leave Inter behind. They won seven straight games and came through a tough part of the schedule in excellent shape. But Inter are unbeaten in 16 league matches and have scored in all but two games across all competitions this season. Few teams have mastered the art of hanging around the way Inter have. They don't need to play particularly well but have both the structure and talent to take home results.

Look at the way they played against Milan. The more cursed they seemed, the more determined they were to break it. Their depth again paid dividends, with Yann Bisseck causing chaos in the area and January signing Nicola Zalewski setting up the equalizer. Head coach Simone Inzaghi has fostered a group that believes until the end, and it, of course, helps to have players who can deliver.

If they come through the next month unbeaten, the title will be theirs to lose. They face Fiorentina twice, Juventus, Genoa, and Napoli, and are free of Champions League obligations during that time. We make a lot of the advantages Antonio Conte enjoys with Napoli unburdened by European competition. Inter just seem to know how to manage the workload.
